Job Description

Responsibilities Include:

• Makes general minor repairs
• Maintains and repairs mechanical equipment
• Paints independently or under direction of craftsmen
• Assembles swing sets, slides, benches, picnic tables and other equipment
• Assists higher-level Maintenance Mechanics in maintenance, repair and overhaul
• Assists craftsmen
• Operates and performs basic maintenance and simple repairs
• Loads and unloads materials and cleans tools

Uses instructions and parts manuals in performing a variety of duties

Job Qualifications

Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Good knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the trade areas to which the incumbent is assigned; good knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to interpret and work from rough sketches; ability to make rough estimates of time and material requirements; ability to develop skill in the use and care of the tools, materials and equip­ment of the trade area concerned; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Either:

• Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in one of the craft areas; or,
• Two (2) years of experience in minor maintenance or repair work; or,
• An equivalent combination of education, or training, and experience as defined by the limits of the first two above; or,
• One (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic I.

 

Necessary Special Requirements:

Depending on the nature of the assignment, at the time of appointment and during employment in this title, candidates may be required to possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the vehicle to be operated.
